Test 2: Services


  • Fax Service - Incoming & Outgoing
    • The library fax machine is available for student use, both to send and receive faxes.
    • The cost to send a fax is $1.00 for the first page, $0.50 for additional pages.
    • There is no charge to receive a fax at the library.
  • Notary Service
    • The library has 2 notaries on staff.
    • Generally, notary service is available 8-4:30 week days.
  • Scanning
    • Students may request document scanning at the library circulation desk.
    • Please bring a flash drive for saving documents.  Small scanning jobs can also be emailed to a recipient.
    • Scanning service is dependent on staff availabilty.  Please do not request last-minute service. 
    • A scanner is also available at the HelpDesk for students who prefer to do their own scanning.

The library offers five group study rooms which may be reserved when not in use for academic purposes.

Students may reserve a study room for two hours at a time with a valid student ID card at the library front desk. At the end of that time, if there are no other groups waiting to use the room, students may re-request use of the room for an additional two hours.

Room reservation requests may be made at the library front desk or by emailing  If room reservations are made via email, the WVWC ID of the requesting student must be shown at the front desk before the room will be opened.

  • As this room holds the library's VHS collection, users may occasionally be disturbed by library staff or patrons retrieving materials.

Room 209

  • As this room holds the library's Curriculum Lab of educational materials, users may occasionally be disturbed by library staff or patrons retrieving materials.
  • Also contains the Ellison letter cutting machine.

About Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary loan is a service that borrows items that are not available in our own library from libraries throughout the United States. Interlibrary loan is available to all faculty, staff, and students. Although faculty, staff, and students are not charged for interlibrary loan services, all patrons are liable for replacement fees for damaged or lost items.   ILLiad is the platform that we use to manage requests and deliver items.

  • Why do I need a username and password to use ILLiad?
  • Your username and password allows us to give you secure access to information about your interlibrary loan requests. We can also enable you to edit your personal information such as your address or phone number.
  • Your username can be anything you like, such as your name, abbreviations, or an alphanumeric code.
  • Your password also can be anything you like. We recommend that you follow good security practice and choose a password that is different from those you use to access other systems. However, no one but you will know your password, not even the library staff. The password you set is stored in an encrypted file.
  • How long will it take for my interlibrary loan item(s) to arrive?
  • Books can take up to 2 weeks to arrive. They usually arrive faster than that, but it is important to take this into consideration when making your request.
  • Articles usually arrive within the same week (often within a day or two of the request).  They are usually delivered electronically either to your ILL account or via email.
  • Can I renew my interlibrary loan books?
  • It all depends on the lending library – their books and their call.  Our ILL department must submit renewal requests to the lending library for approval. If you need a renewal, the request should be submitted to our ILL office ( before the books are overdue.  You will be contacted by email informing you of whether the renewal has been approved or not.
  • The article on my interlibrary loan account disappeared, what happened?
  • Articles delivered electronically to our interlibrary loan account are only available for downloading for 30 days.
  • The status of my request is "canceled".  Why was my request canceled?
  • Your request was probably canceled for one of the following reasons:
    • It was a duplicate request.
    • The item was found in our own library.
    • All possible lenders were exhausted without any filling the request.
    • In all of these circumstances you should have received an email to the address you have entered when you created your ILL account to explain the reason.
  • I'm getting the message that my account has been "disavowed" or is inactive, why?
  • Usually this means you have created more than one account and are trying to use an old account.  If you contact the ILL office ( ) this can usually be easily taken care of.

About Course Reserves

Reserve at Annie Merner Pfeiffer Library is a place for faculty members to put items on reserve so their students may have access during the time the Library is open.

Electronic reserve is provided through Blackboard.  The Library staff can scan an item and upload it to Blackboard or more likely email it to the professor for them to upload to the class content.

Physical course reserves are items such as books, DVDs, videos, and equipment.  Faculty reserve items are restricted to the students enrolled in that course.


  • How much of a book can I scan?  
    • 10% is all you can use and still be in compliance with the Fair Use Act.
  • How many copies can I put on reserve?  
    • 1 copy per 15 students  
  • Can I put personal copies on reserve?  
    • Yes, but if the library also has a copy of it, we will put ours on instead.
  • Can I put Netflix DVDs on reserve?
    • No.  Netflix is intended for private home viewing.
  • I want to put this textbook on reserve so that my students won’t have to purchase it. Is that ok?  
    • NO!!!!!  This is a direct violation of Fair Use in the world of Copyright Law.
  • How long does it take to get something put on reserve?  
    • We will make every effort to get it on as soon as possible, but a 3-day head start is recommended.  For example, 4:30 is not the greatest time to bring something that your students are required to read that evening.
