Test 2: Community Patrons

Library Use by Community Patrons

The Library seeks to support learning and scholarship for learners of all ages and life paths and welcomes members of the Upshur and surrounding communities to visit the library and make use of our resources.

While we cannot replace the variety of services offered by local public libraries, we do allow community patrons to use any available materials in collections while visiting the library.

Community members may also request permission to use public computing stations or WiFi in the library, though campus users are given first priority for computer use.

Community patrons interested in use of the library's electronic collections may do so in the library, but we do not provide remote access to electronic resources by community patrons.

Of particular value and interest to community members, the Library holds the following collections:

  • Microform copies of local newspapers
  • WV county and state histories
  • Appalachian regional interest collection
  • Resources for study of religion, history, and other academic disciplines
  • DVDs, audiobooks, and other media materials.

For more information on community patron policies, see the  Community Borrower Policy or email librarian@wvwc.edu.

Community Borrowers

I.D. may be required for use of restricted materials, including Reserve items, Periodicals, Media items, and Special Collections access (rare book room). Patrons who are not college employees or students, and who wish to borrow circulating materials for use outside the library, may request a library card under one of the following categories:

Courtesy Borrower

Cards are provided at no charge to College employees’ significant others and dependents, emeritus faculty, alumni, Upshur County school teachers, and members of the clergy, ID must be show to verify status. Alumni will be verified through the Alumni Office.

Upshur Borrower

Cards are provided for an annual fee of $10.00 to adult residents of Upshur County.  If a patron younger than 18 wants a card, they must have a person legally responsible for the items checked out, sign for them to have a card.
